Is a Classical Catholic Education Right for Your Child?
You are choosing more than a school.
Every school forms children — the only question is what it forms them into. A classical Catholic education is a deliberate choice to form your child in the things that last: faith, wonder, virtue, and the capacity to think clearly about what is true.
This short guide is written for parents weighing that choice. We wrote it the way we would answer you across a kitchen table — plainly, honestly, and with your child in mind.
A tradition, not a trend.
Four commitments that shape every classroom at Saint Mary’s.
Faith Formation
Daily prayer, sacramental life, and formation in the fullness of the Catholic tradition.
Grammar → Logic → Rhetoric
The trivium meets each child at the right stage — memorization, reasoning, and expression.
Truth, Goodness, Beauty
Great works of literature, music, and art anchor every subject, from math to the sciences.
A Small, Known Community
An intimate K–8 setting where every child is known by name — and by heart.
The soul of the school.
Classical schooling teaches a child to think. Catholic schooling teaches a child that the world is loved into being — that truth is a Person, not a checklist, and that their small life is caught up in something enormous and good.
At Saint Mary, that shows up in ordinary things: daily prayer, weekly Mass, saints on the walls, teachers who treat each child as a soul entrusted to them. The chapel is not a room across the courtyard. It is the beating heart of the day.
“Educating mind, body, and spirit — because a child is all three at once.”
A quick check for parents.
You want your child formed in virtue, not just prepared for a test.
You want prayer, reverence, and the sacraments woven into the school day.
You believe great books, great music, and great ideas belong in childhood.
You want small classes where teachers actually know your child.
You want a school that welcomes your family, not just enrolls a student.
If three or four sound like your family, come see us.
A rhythm of prayer & learning.
The day begins together in the chapel — a moment of quiet before the work of learning.
Latin, literature, mathematics, and history — the great tradition, taught with care.
Play is part of formation. Children run, talk, and rest before returning to their books.
Art, music, Latin recitation, science labs — beauty and wonder woven into the afternoon.
A closing prayer and blessing sends each child home with peace and purpose.
The things parents ask us most.
Is classical education rigorous enough for a top-tier high school?
Yes — and then some. A classical curriculum trains reading, reasoning, and writing to a standard most schools no longer attempt. Our graduates are consistently placed in strong secondary schools and, more importantly, they can think.
Do you welcome non-Catholic families?
Yes. Many of our families are drawn by the classical approach and the culture of virtue. Every child prays with us and studies the Catholic tradition; no family is asked to pretend to be what they are not.
How much homework should we expect?
Meaningful, not crushing. Younger grades read at home with a parent; older grades practice math, memorize poetry, and prepare recitations. Family life is a partner in formation, never its casualty.
My child is coming from public school. Will the transition be hard?
The pace is real, and the material is different — but children are made for this. Our teachers work personally with every new student, and most families tell us their child settles in within a few weeks.
What about tuition and financial aid?
Tuition is set to keep a classical Catholic education within reach of ordinary families, and parish financial aid is available. Ask us on your tour — we will walk you through it plainly.
The best next step is a visit.
A tour takes about an hour. You’ll walk our halls, meet a teacher, and see whether Saint Mary feels like home.
